Housing and homelessness charity Shelter welcomes new Chair of Trustees

LONDON (3rd August 2017) – Shelter’s Board has elected Ros Micklem as their new Chair of Trustees. She has been a Trustee of the housing and homelessness charity since 2014 and also currently chairs the Shelter Scotland Committee.

Ros has a background in further education and most recently was Scotland Director of the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Following her election Ros said: “I feel honoured to have been elected to chair the Board for the coming year. I’m really looking forward to working with the incoming CEO Polly Neate and her team to build on what’s great about Shelter, encourage fresh thinking and develop a clear sense of direction for the years ahead. 

“Trustees and Committee members all want to make a positive difference both for and with the people Shelter exists to support – that’s why we volunteer our time. We know staff are committed to maximising Shelter’s impact and influence in a challenging environment and we’re determined to help them do that.

Ros will step down from her role as Chair of Scotland Committee in August when a new Chair in Scotland has been elected.

Ruth Hunt has also been elected as Vice Chair of Trustees. Ruth joined the Board in 2015 and is the Chief Executive of Stonewall. Prior to Stonewall, Ruth worked at the Equality Challenge Unit where she led work advising Higher Education Institutions on sexual orientation and gender identity equality.

Finally, Joanna Simmons has been elected as Chair of the Audit, Risk and Finance Committee. Joanna has been a Trustee since 2012 and she is an independent consultant and coach specialising in change management in the public and voluntary sectors. She was previously Chief Executive of Oxfordshire County Council and the London Borough of Sutton.

All three appointments are for a one-year period.
